Happy New Year everyone!!

I am so looking forward to 2013. Last year unfortunately had a few trials in it and I am looking forward to a fresh year with new and exciting plans.

My brother announced they are expecting their first child in August so I am stoked for that. Aunty Julz is all ready to spoil the kid rotten :)

As per every new year, I fill out a questionairre on how the year went. Pretty sure I have done it every year since I was 18 (7 years) and I think it is on Myspace, and I just got back in every year and fill out. Helps me appreciate what I have been through this past year.

Anyway I want to share it with you an edited version this year.

Fashion Icon: Ashley Greene (ft. Jackson Rathbone)

If you didnt already know, I am a MASSIVE Twilight fan. I watched the original movie 4 times at the cinemas, and continued to watch it nearly every week when it came out on DVD. I then got equally involved with the remaining movies in the franchise. Last night was a sad realisation that the franchise was ending, as I sat in the cinema to see Breaking Dawn Pt 2.

So many stars have been introduced to us from this franchise like K-Stew, R-Patz and Taylor. But to be honest my favourite two actors from the movie are Ashley Greene (Alice) and Jackson Rathbone (Jasper). Im not really a fan of their characters and their style in the movie but in real life they both are incredibly gorgeous, with Ashley actually having long beautiful hair and serious style cred, and Jackson being this epic hipster musician.

Below is a style guideline for some of Ashleys greatest looks... and I also added some sly pics of Jackson with his offbeat style for the gents to copy if they so wish :)

Christmas Gift Ideas: Adult Siblings

If you are lucky enough to have sibblings like I do, you will know how amazing they are. You do everything imaginable with them from eating together, playing together and going through every life event with them and they are like your own bestfriends that live with you.

Unfortunately, I dont live with my sibblings anymore but now that we are all grown up, we actually value our time together and opinions and advice, and seriously, nothing beats quality time with your brother or sister right?

Like I said, my sibblings are all grown up now with them ranging from 16-23 (Im the eldest) so obviously the gifts need to be age appropriate. This post will be on gifts for adult sibblings and can pretty be suitable for anyone from 16-30.

First the brother Tim. Tim is pretty trendy and is really into his music. He is a guitarist so guitar picks would a great idea, or even an ipod dock so he can just relax and listen to his music. My brother also loves his black Rayban Wayfarers... but always breaks them. Some other ideas would be DVDs of his favourite movies, clothes and maybe even a bottle of his favourite alcohol if he likes his drink (Tim not so much)
Brother xmas

I have two little sisters Ainz and Court who are freakin incredible. They have very similar taste to me. One sister has identical taste with a love for vintage and the other is more into bright quirky things, so they are very easy to buy for. I also have a sister inlaw (brothers wife) who is equally as incredible, and has a little bit more of a modern taste.

So whilst very different in themes, the general taste is the same.. ie music, shows, clothes etc...
So for my sisters, I would always go for jewellery first. Something from Diva or Collette for something trendy. All my sisters love their technology so a cute phone case is a safe option . Also, considering Im a makeup artist, they always appreciate a makeup gift like a palette or brushes. Other ideas include perfumes, swimwear, scented candles (we love caramel and indulgent smells) bags and you could even go for something really sentimental like an engraved bangle. BFFs!

Trend: Metallics

Metallics are always a big trend around December, as they are the 'go to' material for New Years Eve paties etc, but this year it seems like metallics have a more broad appeal with it being one of the most sought after trends this summer.

I personally think there is such a fine line with looking cute and looking trashy with the trend. I think the best way is to start with accessories... a silver belt here and some gold heels there. Then you can work your way up to a metallic skirt or shorts, or a dress with metallic colour blocking on it.....and if you really want to embrace this trend, then by all means throw on a metallic jumpsuit or maxi dress!!!

Below are some pieces that I think are perfectly acceptable for tapping into the metallics trend this season. I love how the top below combines the metallic craze with the peplum and how awesome is that sweater!!! Its so relaxed yet the gold puts a more formal spin on it so you can wear it out for dinner or drinks :)

Christmas Gift Ideas: Parents

Im going to christmas-fy myself this year like nobodies business... Im talking christmas ringtones, decorations on work desk, house decked with tree and bling and carols playing ALL the time. No one is going to mistaken what time of year it is... NO ONE!! :)

I love Christmas and everything that it stands for. I love the atmospher, the time you spend with family, christmas parties, carols and gifts.. and I especially love the Christmas story and events my church puts on. Did i mention I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!???

Last year I put together some posts on christmas outfits and really thats it... Im going to now Christmas-fy my blog :)

So first up, gifts... geez its hard to think of something cool and original to give to someone. I always have a brain freeze at christmas time, after spending all year trying to store up my gift bank in my head with ideas... never works.

Anyway here is my gift ideas for those certain people in your life that you have/want to buy gifts for. There are the sibblings, the grandparents, housemates, bestfriends, work secret santa, house party hosts, partners and most importantly (atleast I think) parents. I LOVE MY PARENTS.
So I thought I would kick off my Christmas posts with ideas on what to get your parents.

Firstly Dad.... ohh my Dad is the coolest. Im talking the hip, teacher/electric guitar playing dad.
I usually end up getting him clothes because its the easiest thing to get him and I know what size he is.. and it means I have a say in what he wears :P
Gift ideas for dad include the typical cologne, clippers, socks and facial kit... but here some things to think about... what makes your dad, your dad? My dad is about coffee for aslong as I can remember, he also loves orange flavoured chocolates.... and embarressingly, he carries a manbag around with him.... so why not give him a new coffee machine? or a cool bag which you wouldnt be ashamed to have him carry around?
Dad mXmas

Then there is my Mummy. She is the most beautiful, caring, loving mum in the world (we all say that dont we :)) But seriously my mum is mega hot and hip and I really dont know how I ended up with such cool parents!! Fo shiz!
So, mumma, she loves pearls, so I thought why not a cool twist on pearl earrings? Some other traditional gifts for mum include, perfume, candles, makeup bag. Does your mum like to cook? My mum does.. what about a kitchen aide mixer? or a cook book? Is she trendy? How about a new scarf... or go all out and get her a funky new handbag... they seem to carry everything with them, so get something big but cute.
Mummy xmas

Let me know of your gift ideas for your parents? xx

Skin Types 101

Ok, so I have been wanting to do this post for awhile.

As alot of my readers know, Im a Makeup Artist. I am qualified and I am also trained in skintypes and cleansing too. Alot of people I come across ask about oily skin, dry skin and problem skin and what the best products are for your skintype.

Well here is the basic breakdown for you and what products to look for..

Normal Skin- Your skin has small to medium pores. You dont get shiney, nor flakey. Your skin reacts well to most products and seems to be able handle alot of wear and tear.

Stick to milk or lotion cleansers. Can handle any type of toner and a regular moisturiser will be fine.
Look for the word "normal skin" in the title

Oily Skin- You have larger pores. Your skin is always shiney by the end of the day and you tend to break out. You need to stick mattifying foundations and oil free powders. You can get away with scrubbing 3-4 times a week. Look for foaming or gel cleasers and for light/ oil-free moisturisers. You can also get away with alcohol in your toner (if not sensitive). Make sure that you do moisturise, otherwise your skin will freak out at the lack of moisturiser and produce more oil.

Ingredients to look for include cucumber, tea-tree oil, green tea, citrus, witch hazel (these combat shine)

Look for words like "oil-free", "mattifying", "shine free", "refreshing" or anything where it says its specifically designed for oily skin or oily/combination skin.

Dry Skin- Your skin cant seem to have enough moisturiser. Little to no shiny-ness. Sometimes flaky in extremely dry areas. Shows fine lines (or deep lines). Small pores. Look for milk or cream cleansers and medium-rich moisturisers. Can only hand a scrub 1-2 times a week.
Look for words "soothing","moisturising", "rich" etc. Usually will say for dry skin on packet.

Combination skin- Is generally either oily/normal or dry/normal... which basically means you are not an extreme case of either, but you have oily areas like your t-zone, or dry areas like your cheeks.
Its best play around with all products. You might find that a cleanser for oily skin works best with a rich moisturiser or visa versa. You might even like putting a rich moisturiser on your cheeks and a light on your t-zone. Its all trial and error really. Or look for products specifically designed for combination skin

And then there are skin conditions which affect all of the above skin types....

Sensitive skin- Can either be caused by touch or chemicals. Goes red as soon as you touch your face, or if you use a product thats too harsh or has perfumes in it.

When scrubbing, look for a gentle scrub with micro beads or oatmeal pieces.

Look for "soothing", "calming", "gentle", "sensitive". Usually see chamomile or oatmeal in the ingredients.

Mature Skin- Usually start to see the early signs of aging in your 30s with fine lines around the eyes. In your 40s and 50s you will see deeper lines in your eyes, forehead and mouth. 60s you will start to see sagging. Sunspots and liverwarts are also conditions linked to mature skin, that cause pigmentation. Oily skin is renowned for aging better than dry skin, due to the extra oil found in the skin surface.

Look for products with "ant-aging" or "mature" in the title. Usually find that serums are very big in the category and eye creams. You should start using an eye cream at 25.. as aging is inevitable.

Acne Prone Skin- Acne prone skin can mean your basic adolescent acne that disappears after highschool, to adult acne which can be an absolute pain to treat. Acne ranges from the occasional monthly breakouts, to full blown cystic acne.

Alot of companies  especially cater for acne prone skin like Clean & Clear and Clearasil. But most companies have a line designed for acne prone skin. Look for words like "acne prone", "clarifying", "purifying", "clearing".

Also look for ingredients Salicylic Acid, Benzyol Peroxide or AHA.

So my pictures below are a little out of order when I created them but it gives you some ideas of the products that are on the market for each skin type and condition. If you want specific names click on the collages below, and it will take you to the list of products. Hope this helped :)

Fashion Icon: Elizabeth Olsen

Elizabeth Olsen has spent most of her life living in the shadows of her sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley. In the last couple of years she has finally stepped into the spotlight and come into her own. Ive known about Lizzie (as her sisters call her) for years, since the twins got their hollywood walk star and they had the family group photos. She looked stunning back then and I could wait till she would finally step out from behind them.

I see Elizabeth as having similar style to Ashley, very classic but without the crazy homeless extras that you sometimes find with the Olsen Twins. She wears very comfortable relaxed basics with structured pieces. Even her shoes are very classic so that she can reuse them.

Below are some of my favourite looks from her.

So i have updated my skincare routine alot since my last post here., and I wanted to share with you what I found to work for my skin. This past year or two, i have had disgusting skin. It constantly broke out and I couldnt work out why. I found some products that work for my skin now, and I am really happy with the results. My skin type is combination/oily so I need gel type face washes and light moisturisers....otherwise I get too greasy.

Spring/Summer 2013

This a post for all those Aussie girls like me, that want to know whats ahead for next summer, and want to possibly get ahead of the Aussie fashion pack for this summer. Stop searching, because I hunted down some shots of the fashion greats from Spring/Summer 2013 runway shows, that I think will assist you in this journey of fashion glory. Enjoy :)
S/S 13

Marc Jacobs looked to have embraced his inner 90s child this season with marle greys and pale blues. Everything looks to be oversized and possibly a little unflattering?? I would recommend maybe sticking to his look on either the top and bottom only, and cinching in the other.
Roland Mouret on the other hand went for a very tailored ensemble of outfits, sticking with muted colours and oragami inspired cuts. Very lady like.
Fellow Aussies Sass & Bide were very monchromatic with their black and white dresses. They were very geometric both in print and in design with definite and strong cutes around the shoulders and neckline.
I loved Jason Wu's ideas with he hotpink mixed with black. I remember when that look was done so much in the late 90's/early 2000s. Seems like its big again and I love it.
3.1 Phillip Lim channeled the sport/menswear trend with athletic pants and printed tsirts mixed with blazers and heels.
Pencil skirts seem to be the key garment for Derek Lam this season. All of the looks that I saw incorporated the pencil skirt in different ways. My personal fave is the burnt orange skirt and cropped corset top.

Which look will you be going for this season?

Drugstore Makeup

So I thought it was about time that I updated my makeup routine. Everything in the below collage are available from drugstores (except BH Cosmetics) and are under $AU20.

I think the most important thing I should mention before I get started, is that I have oily/combination skin. So I find that I need mattifying products first and formost.

First up, is primer and I couldnt find an image of it, but I use the Face of Australia Primer.

The foundation that I found to be the best is the new BB cream from Garnier. I then use two concealers from Maybelline. The Age Rewind is for under my eyes, and then Fit Me is for elsewhere that it is needed.

Powder wise, I use Rimmel Natural Bronzer. Its is the perfect colour and has no shimmer (side note, why do companies bother with shimmer bronzers when everyone seem to opt for the matte?) and then I use Australis Fresh and Flawless powder to mattify my face.

Cheeks, I use Face of Australia blush which I couldnt find an image for.

I firstly use my Australis Eye Primer putting anything in my lids. This makes my shadow last all day. I use my BH Cosmetics palette for any of the my eye looks. This little baby cost me less that $15 from their site (here). They are super pigmented and come in so many colours and themes.
I then use the Maybelline One By One mascara in black and line my eyes with Eye Studio liquid liner. Its seriously the best that I have come across.

For lips, I tend to just stick with my Lucas Paw Paw ointment as I get lazy, and then carry around my EOS balm for touch ups. If Im feeling a little more vibrant, I will use either my Revlon Colorburst in Carnation or rarely Ill go for my Kate Moss designed Rimmel Lipstick in 09 which is super bright but I love it!!

At the moment, I am using a limited edition pack from Face of Australia called Sheer Gloss Lip Crayons. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these and am so disappointed that they are only limited edition :(

And thats basically it. All prices can be found on the links above. I have only linked the Australian versions of the sites (cause Im Australian!) so if you live in another country, you may need to find out your local website for prices.

I highly recommend all of these products, so I hope that this will assist if you are looking to try something new :)

Trend: Neon

So, this is a trend that I am walking with very carefully. I think it is a fine line between looking amazing, and then looking too OTT.

Im talking about neon! The amazing electric colour theme from the 80s. Thankyfully though, this time round its more about accents than "blow your mind out" outfits.

I havent personally gone too crazy with this trend, in regards to dresses and pants, but I am enjoying the trend in accessories and within prints on shirts etc.

Below is a collaboration of pieces that I would happily encorporate into my wardrobe, and if you think you can handle a full on neon outfit, then go for it! Its summer, go crazy!! :)

Lusting: Summer 2012

Ok, I say this every year, but Im looking forward to summer. It always happens.. when it comes to the end of the season, I am super ready to move on to the next.

This summer the trends that I am enjoying are colour, ladylike fabrics and prints.
Pinks, oranges, blues and mints are my favourite colours for the season and I have my eye on a pair of pint green sandals from a local boutique which cost a little more than Im willing to pay, but gosh they look amazing against my coral painted pedicure :)

I love the summery floral prints based on white backgrounds. I cant think of anything more summery, except maybe light wash jeans. I wish I could pull them off more, but curves really only allow for darker coloured jeans :( but I can dream.

Focusing on things I can actually pull off.. skater dresses. You know the ones that cinch in at the waist and then flare out to just above the knee and are usualy in some obscenely bright colour. I have one in coral but I also love the blue one below. I am loving statement jewellery this season in a block colours, so that i can contrast it against another colour in my outfit. It really is about clashing your outfit, whether that be in colour, print or fabric. Its so in!

Ok, so without further ado, here is my lust list for Summer 2012

Emmys 2012

This year the fashion at the Emmys was very bright and summery (which was a stark contrast to last year. See here).

Yellow was very popular with many celebrities rocking the colour from Leslie Man to Julie Bowen to Kaley Cuoco. Citrus in general was very popular with corals and oranges.
My personal favourites of the night were Claire Danes looking very pregnant and glowing, and Kelly Osbourne, because lets face it, who else could rock purples hair, lips and dress?

The shape of the night was origami. The folds int he dresses this year were amazing and gravity defying. There also was not much in the form of print and texture with most people sticking to one vibrant shade.

Below are a few of my favourite looks of the night.

Teen Choice Awards 2012

Its that time of year again and the stars didnt fail to impress. You could definately see the major trend of brights and neons this year with a strong presence of pinks and purples. Infact, is it just me, or did many stars match the pink carpet?

Everyone looked so fresh and summery this year and short dresses were definately the pick of the night.

Below are my favourite looks of the night. Special mentioned to Selena and Lea who both seem to have embraced summer with blonde highlight- I really like their new look. I also think Hayden is looking more fresh than ever with her bright blonde hair. I think the best dress is Kat Grahams.. its graphic, its geometric and its bright.

Chocolate Dates

I have recently become a little obssessed with sugar free baking.
This stemed from a pending dentist visit, but am wanting to make it a permanent lifestyle change. If you didnt already know, sugar is the worst culprite in weight gain, even more than fats.
Anyway, in my quest to cut out sugar, I have found some great recipes from blogs as well as coming up with my own.
Today I want to share a recipe I found on that altered a little to suit my tastes more. Below is my recipe. The original can be found here.

Chocolate Fudge Date Balls
Pack of Pitted Dates
3 TB Cocoa
1 TB Peanut Butter
1/4 Cup Desicated Coconut
1 Tsp Vanilla Essence
Splash of milk

Throw all but coconut in a food processor until smooth a paste forms. Roll into balls and coat in the coconut. No sugar but tastes so decadent!!!

Trend: Peplum

Hello Hello, Vacation time for me this past couple of months. Not literally oufcourse because I was working my butt off both at work and in my makeup course but I have been absent from all walks of online life....but Im back and I promise to update as much as possible.

To kick things off I wanted to share one of the biggest trends to hit this winter.. Peplum.
Ive seen it on tops, dresses, skirts and even jackets. Its flattering for all body shapes with the ability to add shape to boyish and straight figures and to cinch and curve on hourglass figures. Its a win/win for all involved. I plan on picking up some peplum pieces really soon to add to my work wardrobe. I would also love to grab some casual pieces to pair with jeans on weekends.

April Lusting

Rich colours, structured designs and expensive fabrics. Im loving the trends for fall 2012. A couple of notable selections below include deep red jeans, pleated dresses, printed blazers, riding boots and indigo blue skirts. What took my by surprise was how much I fell for the brown Antonio Valenti dress. I love brown for winter. I know brown and black is a faux pas but its a favourite pairing of mine :)

Trend: 2012 Jeans

This year, it is all about stepping outside the box from black or blue jeans. Go on.. live a little! Whether you decide to experiment with sorbet colours, gem tones or printed jeans, you can guarantee that you will turn heads and create a buzz.

With it going into winter in Australia, I will be sticking to the gem coloured jeans. I particularly want to snag a pair of burgendy red or aubergine purple skinny jeans. If you in the northern hemisphere, or you want to get ahead and buy up for summer, then sorbets would be the best option. Pastel pinks, blue and greens, teamed with white tops and tan accessories make a summer outfit to die for.

If you are a little more daring you could attempt the printed jean trend. Animal print, floral and tribal seem to be the leading prints this season. To keep it safe, you can pair with a plain white top or if you want to go all out, you can mix prints.. but remember the key to mixing prints is to keep the prints within the same colour family.

Birthday Idea 3

This is my final idea....

Black dress with gold accessories. I think that black would suit me most because of my curvy figure but I always wear black.

Stay tuned to see what I wear :)

Birthday Idea 2

This is the second outfit idea for my birthday party... A black boob-tube with a shimmering gold maxi skirt. Matched with black sandals and a statement necklace.

Isn't this skirt by Lanvin to die for!?

Birthday Idea 1

At the end of April I am having my 25th birthday party. The theme is vintage glamour with a colour scheme of black, white and gold. I'm drapping pearls around the place and having little jars with candles surrounding my backyard. Im so excited to have a little get together with my closest friends... but I cant decided what wear.

So, Im going to post a few ideas over the next week to get some feedback.

First idea is to wear a white strucutered dress with black booties, pearl studs and a gold headband.
Stay tuned for the next outfit idea.......
