How To Style: Denim Shirt

Last post, I spoke about how denim is very key this season, even to the extend on doubling up on bottom and on top. If you are unsure how to rock denim this season, I have made it a little easier for you with my new post called How To Style.

With this new series I will attempt to show you how you can style a key piece, colour or trend in 4 different ways...The office, girly weekend, girls night out, and relaxed/sporty.

Today I am showing you how to fit the chambray/denim shirt into your look, depending on your event or your plans for the day.

For a night out, I would button up the shirt the whole way and throw on a statement necklace around the colar. I would wear a short leather skirt to balance it out and some sexy heels.

For a girly vibe, I love mixing florals and denim. This crop top and skirt combo is perfect for a cooler spring day, once you throw on your denim shirt and tie the front in a knot. Throw your cross body bag over your shoulder, and slip on your sandals and you are ready for a brunch or shopping date.

For the office, I would button the shirt up, leaving the top two buttons undone. Its important not to show any cleavage so throw on a camisole underneath if you need to. I would tuck the shirt into some white trousers and make a statement with print skinny belt.

Lastly for a sporty/relaxed vibe. Throw on your favourite coloured shorts and graphic tshirt, with some trainers, and leave the shirt open and flowing. This looks so carefree and you can finish off this look with a statement cap.

I hope this helps you out, and let me know if there is a tricky trend that you trying to conquer.

Trend: Denim

Jeans are always going to be fashion. That is a true statement.
It all really just depends no what cut is in fashion or what rise of the waistline is on trend.

This season though, denim is taken to a whole new level. We are seeing denim dresses, shorts, overalls, shoes, shirts and skirts. Its denim overload and everyone is loving. Double denim is especially popular this season, with a strong nod to the 90's with shapes and styling.

I remember rocking a denim dress when I was younger in the 90s, and then denim skirt in the mid 00's. So its time to bring it all back this season and dont be scared of too much denim. Try denim jacket if you are too scared to go the whole hog, or maybe even the overalls for something fun.

Below are some key pieces that are very on trend this season.

Fashion Icon: Nina Dobrev

I'm a little bit obsessed with Vampire Diaries (Ps it returns in October!!!! yayaya!!)

So it goes without saying that I follow Kat Graham, Candice Accola and Nina Dobrev on Instagram. I have already posted on how amazing Kat Grahams fashion is here. But I have lately become intrigued by Nina's fashion sense and well her social media accounts in general. And she is best friends with Julianne Hough, so really, can she get any cooler?

Here are some of my favourite outfits of Nina's and how you can recreate them!

I love how she mixes basics with statement pieces. Its very much a look that we can emulate in every day life!!

Spring Fashion Trends 2014

Its been a couple of days since my last post but thats because I have collecting information on all the best trends for Spring 2014. As I always say, in Australia we are always a season behind in fashion which is a blessing and a curse. A curse because, well we have to wait to get all the trends in stores here and we are usually going into the opposite season have to wait till temperatures are suitable, but a blessing because it means we can start rocking summer or winter fashion a season early if we can find the items online, or we already own them. In saying that, keep an eye out for the Spring 2015 sneak peak coming next week, if you want to get ahead of the Aussie fashion pack.

For now though, this is my wrap up for the top trends for Spring 2014. I have combined a couple of trends in a few items to make it more simple. So here it is...

First trend is something I always love to wear in Spring, and that's florals. The prints are even bigger this year so go all out if you can. The other trend in this particular outfit is the matching set. Whether you choose to do a pant suit, a skirt and top or slim fit suit; if you can find it in a matching print, then you are winning. The next trend is of course the denim. Double denim is even big this season so go all out! Geometric prints are all the rage this spring with checks being especially popular like in this skirt below. A big trend on the red carpet this season has been the ear cuff or going large on one earring and smaller on the other side. Both are very on trend. White was everywhere on the run ways for 2014 and especially in the form of the crisp white shirt. Pair it with white pants and its double points! Sport Luxe is continuing on as a must trend, but if it isnt your thing, just add a baseball cap! Blush is the main colour trend for spring, with it being seen in some of the biggest shows at fashion week, and this blush top demonstrates the crop top trend which is massive this season. Pair crop tops with high waisted items so that you are showing the smallest little sliver of your upper waist. Fringe is very trendy with it especially prominent on bags, shorts and kaftans. Curvy girls rejoice because fuller skirts are big this Spring, with a longer length preferred. Lastly block heels are in -YAY- and our ankles can relax with this great support.

Emmy Awards 2014

I wanted to do a quick post with  my favourite picks from the recent Emmy awards.
There was a lot of red on the carpet this year and people were making daring decisions in cuts, lengths and materials!
My favourites this year are from some people that dont usually appear on my best dressed lists.

First up is Taylor Schilling in this amazing Zuhair Murad dress. Its a little sheer, a little shimmery, and a little nude. Its super sexy without being too over the top, and she looks absolutely stunning.

Next is Julia Roberts. She usually plays it safe and I am a fan of the unexpected. This dress by Elie Saab is incredible. It looks like it was made to her shape and its so fun for her, especially on such a traditional carpet. And seriously, 46 years old? I dont think so, look at those pins!

Last is this dress by Lorena Sarbu is just divine on Hayden Panettiere. Its fits her like a glove and shows of her glorious baby bump. She looks glowing and so she should!

This is my wrap up for the Emmy's red carpet. Who were your picks this year?

Trend: Leather

Its hard to post sometimes on trends because living in Australia we are usually going into the opposite season to the rest of the world. We are about to head into Spring/Summer, while everyone else are heading into Fall/Winter. However I am happy to say that one of the winter trends from this past season is very easy to translate  for summer. This trend is leather. Leather is showing up everywhere and can be seen in tops, dress and pants, as well as the usual jackets and accessories. I lean more towards looser fit pieces in leather, so as it doesn't drift towards looking too... well you know where I am going with that.
The below items are on my radar and work both for winter and summer!! Pair with jackets and boots for winter or with sandals and sun hats for summer!

Fashion Icon: Olivia Palermo

I have loved Olivia since I watched her on The City back a few years ago. I was (still am) a big fan of The Hills (see my post of The Hills fashion here) and then i followed Whitney Port over to The City when she moved to the New York.

Her rival on the show was Olivia Palermo, and although I had some distaste towards her at first (I was team Whitney), her fashion was not to be beaten and soon fell in love with her style- (and then realised the show was scripted and she wasn't actually mean - haha late bloomer)

She mixes eclectic pieces with classic shapes and items. She is timeless and can make anything look fashionable. I follow her blog and love everything that she posts up. I only wish that i could style an outfit like her!!

Below are some of my favourite outfits by New York's best:

August Lusting 2014

I have been so focused on wedding ANYTHING for the last 6 months so when I went through some fashion stores and fashion sites, I found some great new items of clothing and accessories that I am lusting after.

I hope this give you your fashion fix for the next hour or so.....

lusting August 2014

I love these lace up nude heels. They would go with everything and the platform sole would keep them comfortable for the ankles.
Cut outs are so big right now and strategically placed cut outs are the most flattering. These cut outs will show off the smallest part of your waist.
This next item is technically a pair of shorts, and I LOVE the idea of the skirt over the top. Save alot of red faces when walking down the windy streets in the city.
Plaid shirts are all the rage right now and I love any plaid with a touch of red in it. Don't know why this is the case, but I just do.
Soft draped outwear is a favourite of mine. I like how loser jackets don't leave me looking too boxy and large.. as a curvy girls this is important to me.
The next skirt is very flattering and mixes the still very trendy asymmetric skirt, summery print and flattering shape all into one. WINNING!
The next dress, I dont know, I just love the bright colour of the dress. Perfect for the day with a looser vest and sandals, or at night time with a blazer and heels.
The white sandals are perfect for spring and summer. They look fresh and would go with anything.
And lastly the vest. Such a big trend and they go with everything and draw any look together. I love black as I tend to drift towards monochromatic ensembles but black will go with my random pops of colour too.

Award Show: MTV Video Music Awards 2014

The VMA's happened this past weekend in California and of course, like any other VMA show there was schandals, wardrobe malfunctions and there was Miley Cyrus. Surprisingly Miley didnt make us cringe this year after last years "twerk" show, and the malfunction occurred on none other than Nicki Minaj. Beyonce did a performance that no one will forget and the most importantly the red carpet was swarmed with both horrendous and gorgeous outfits within metres of eachother.

I wont mention those outfits that I didnt understand (*cough * Taylor!) and move right onto the ones that I really liked.

I really like what Kim Kardashian has been wearing this award season. This dress by Balmain is amazing, with the print and the cut. I also love Kims hair and makeup. She looks so fresh.

Mileys outfit by Alexandre Vauthier Couture is so edgy and its nice change from her usual leotard that she wears. She looks to softening up a little of late.

Julianne Hough, be it the name or just that she is damn cool, but I love her. Navy is such a flattering colour especially on blondes and this dress by Emilio Pucci is no exception.

Beyonce stole the night, not only with her epic performance but because she nailed her red carpet look. This dress by Nicolas Jebran is stunning and made her look like the (music) royalty.

Michelle Williams was not one to outshone by her former Destinys Child member. She looked amazing her in her dress by Roberto Cavalli. Maybe it's my love for monochromatic prints, but I want this dress!

Lastly, Miss Sparks. The love of Mr Derulo's life. Is this is sign of things to come? Wearing all white? Man I hope so, because if she can look this amazing on the red carpet in this Simply Intricate FM dress, then she will sure to sparkle in THE white dress when she walks down the other aisle :)

Stay tuned for a red carpet wrap up of the 2014 Emmy Awards.

Teen Choice Awards 2014

I know I am little late with Teen Choice awards but I felt like I need to have a quick say on what I loved about the fashion this year.
So this my extremely late wrap up of the red carpet.
To be honest only 3 people caught my attention this year and for very different reasons.
First being Kim Kardashian in Balmain. Im not usually a big fan of what she wears but this outfit I love. The black and white high waisted skirt with the leather crop top. This is one time that I love the crop top look on a curvy girls and thank you very much Kim for leading the way for us girls who don't have a size 0 waist.
Next is Shay Mitchell from Pretty Little Liars. Her Misha Collection outfit is just the epitome of summer, the white lace skirt and top, the side braid and even the dark lip feels summery- strangely. Im just loving her in this!
Lastly, my favourite girl of the moment, Nina Dobrev. I love her short and top combo by Vionnet, and again I love the side braid. Now that I have cut my hair I cant really create this hairstyle so I envy anyone that can do it. I also love her makeup. Her eyes are absolutely popping- and do I even need to mention her kicking figure!!

I'm back :)

Yes I am back!!

I took a rather long break from blogging to focus on some personal things.. namely my wedding!!
I got married last month and it was the best day of my life. I loved every minute of planning the day and the day went off without a hitch.

Jeremy and I have been loving every minute of being married, our date nights, our home cooked dinners, and chilling on the couch in our own place. Its great and we couldn't be happier. I have some posted some wedding pictures below, as well some shots from our honeymoon in Tasmania and Melbourne.

I will back posting more often, so enjoy!

Fashion Icon: Julianne Hough

I love this girl. I first came across her in Burlesque, then in Footloose, Rock of Ages and finally Safe Haven. Obsessed with her, and might I say, what an awesome name!! :)

She is so fun and interesting. She loves to dance and sing and be silly. She has an awesome Instagram account (@julieshough) and is best friends with my girl Nina Dobrev. Whats not to love about her?

Ive wanted to emulate her hair, her makeup and finally her fashion sense. She is very much like me with her mixes basics with a statement piece in a street/casual style.

Below are some of my favourite looks from Miss Hough.

Everyday Makeup: January 2014

I absolutely love makeup. I collect way to much of it, and my daily makeup kit is actually bursting at the seems.

I do however, have my few products that I ALWAYS reach for when I am doing my every day makeup looks, and these are pictured below.

For my base, I always use my Maybelline Age Rewind brightener under my eyes and follow with Maybellines Fit Me Concealer. I also use Fit Me on any blemishes that I have. I then use my Sedona Lace Round Top brush to buff in my Maybelline Superstay Foundation. I then set it all with Australis Setting Powder.

For contouring I have been grabbing my E.L.F. Contour Duo (great dupes for Nars Orgasm and Laguna).

For my eyes I use my L'oreal quad in brown and I usually contour my eyes with the lightest colour and mid brown colour. I then use the darkest brown to etch out my crease and line my lower lash line. I also use the mid brown to fill in my eye brows!

Lastly I use Essence liquid liner and coat my lashes with Covergirl's Lashblast Fusion.

If I wear a lipstick, it will usually be an Ulta3 lipstick in a mid-pink shade. My favourite lipstick of all time would have to be Revlon Colorburst in Carnation.

Trend: Asymmetrical Hems

I absolutely LOVE this trend. It has been very big for this summer, and Im sure that it will go into winter as well. Its the asymmetrical hemline that has been seen everywhere from on skirts, dresses and even jackets!

I find that it is very flattering and a somewhat unexpected twist on a traditional shape. For those of you with long legs, you can get away with the mini skirts and dresses that have a little more a peep show.

For those who want a little more modesty, you are not left out. You can wear a pencil skirt or knee length dress. If you aren't a skirt/dress kind of girl, then for a jacket or vest with an unexpected twist.

Below are some of picks to embrace this trend.

Skincare Routine: Jan 2014

Fashion is such a big part of what I write about on this blog. In fact its the main thing that I write about.

But as most of you know, I am also a makeup artist, and therefore anything makeup or skincare holds a special place in my heart. It has been a couple of years since I put up my skincare routine, and alot has changed since then.

My skin is still the same... oily/combination with mild acne.

Acne is a constant problem for my skin and I am always trying to find ways to improve it. Right now I am loving the Natio acne line. Its gentle and i can actually feel it working. I do still get the odd breakout or two, which is very frustrating as I am trying to clear my skin up before my wedding but I will continue to use this routine for another month  to see how i go!

My current routine for night time is to cleanse my face with Natio Dual Action Cleanser & Toner, remove any extra eye makeup with the Garnier 2 in 1 Makeup Remover, and swipe my face with Biore's Complexion Clearing toner. I then use Garniers Age Lift Eye Cream and moisturise my face with Garnier Dark Spot Corrector. If I have a breakout, I use the Nation Antibacterial Spot Treatment under the moisturiser.

In the mornings (if I am being good) I will cleanse my face as above and tone and I will then use the Natio Daily Radiance Eye Cream. Depending on what my day holds for me, I will alternate between SPF moisturiser and SPF free. If I am going out at night or will be in the office all day, I will use Palmers Cocoa butter (which I know might get alot of flack because its a body moisturiser but I LOVE it for my face). If I am going to be out a little bit in the sun I will use the Palmers Daily Facial Moisturiser with SPF 15. If I will be at the beach, at a park etc, then I will use my Nivea Daily Moisturiser with SPF 30. I dont like the feel of sunscreen on my face, and it always gets in my eyes so I don't really use it unless I need it.

I realise this is bad, as I live in Australia which has the highest sun factor in the world, and as a makeup artist i DO know better. But I just haven't found one that I am willing to wear every day... and so the hunt continues....

Grammy Awards 2014

The Grammys are renowned for being one of the more relaxed carpets of the award season. In saying that though, I found that alot of the celebrities either played it too safe and simple or were just down right boring.

I did however find six lovely ladies that stood out, head and shoulders, above the rest with their edgy outfits and beautiful gowns.

Firstly, I thought that Ciara was positively glowing in her gown by Pucci. Pregnancy certainly does agree with this singer.

Taylor Swift has finally been taking some risks this season on the carpet and stepping out of her sweet persona. Although this dress by Gucci was a little more 'sweet' than vixen, it still looked amazing on her, and I love her hair and makeup.

Giuliana Rancic is absolutely killing it this season!! There's alot to be said about the interviewer outshining the interviewees on the red carpet. I love LOVE her and this dress by Aussie designer, Alex Perry!!

Zendaya, a Disney Channel starlet stood out in this awesome outfit; mainly because it was so different to what others were wearing. She was wearing an ensemble by Emanuel Ungaro and her intense slicked hair was so on trend for this season. I am expecting to see great things from her on the red carpets.

Louise Roe, another interviewer on the carpet, is also making waves this season. I love this gorgeous dress by another Aussie designer Manning Cartell . Her outfit was simple yet seductive and she certainly knows what looks good on her.

Lastly another person that I am unfamiliar with but sure to get to know through the fashion waters, is country singer Kacey Musgraves. This dress by Armani Prive was a standout for me. It was angelic and flowy, yet fitted and flattering to her figure. Pure perfection.

SAG Awards 2014

I must say that I was really disappointed with the dresses on the red carpet for the Screen Actors Guild Awards this year. I know that this particular awards ceremony is alot less stressful than the others, but I dont necessarily means that you should relax on the fashion too! Where's the fun in that??

So this year, to be honest I had to pick the best out of a measly bunch. Sad sad sad.
I cant say that they looked bad, because honestly who can look bad when they are dressed in designer gowns and had a makeup and hair team around them all day... but I guess the best way to express my disappointment is that the red carpet was boring!! Nothing daring, nothing exciting. Its was all pretty straight forward and too the point, and "lets get off this carpet and through to the party" type of dresses.

So in saying all that. Here are my top picks from the SAG Awards 2014.

Firstly I pick Michelle Dockery in the J.Mendel. Next is Giuliana Rancic, who I pick for best dressed, in Basil Soda (never heard of them but keep an eye out!). And lastly, mainly due to the fact that she cant do any wrong, and she actually took a risk, Cate Blanchett in Givenchy.

Lusting: January 2014

Its time for a little lusting. It has been awhile since I have sat down and really thought about what I want or "need" in my closet. I guess my mind was focused on other things in my life, and shopping and fashion took a little bit of a backseat (GASP!)

But as always, I am back in the fashion frame of mind and have already collected quite the lust list for January 2014. As most long time readers would already know, I always find myself craving the next season, around midway through the current season. Blame my ADD but yes, being January and only half way through summer, I am super  keen to move back in Winter ASAP please!! So my list revolves around some current season wants, but mostly some winter cravings.

The following items, hold a strong need to reside in my wardrobe :)

1. A yellow dress
2. flat knee-high riding boots (brown wouldn't hurt either)
3. A great soft leather jacket for all occasions
4. Printed pants and/or leggings
5. A linen shirt
6. A statement necklace, preferably in coral
7. A lighter coloured sweater
8. Some sort of winter hat
9. A powder blue chain bag
10. Asymmetric skirts (already have leather... floral would be lovely!)
11. Brown or camel ankle boots

Golden Globes 2014

I'm a little behind in the awards season this year, but better late than never right!!

So here are my 3 favourite picks of the day. Love love love the dress worn by Emma Watson. This design by Christian Dior was so chic and modern and then she turns around for a little pant action.. WOW!

Cate Blanchett generally likes to steers towards ethereal designs and materials, and this lace gown by Armani Prive is no exception.

Lastly, not one of the heavyweights within Hollywood, but certainly a well known figure in the fashion world, British fashion commentator Louise Roe smashed it in this Monique Lhuillier number. The hair, the coral colour, the lace... the whole thing just worked and she was glowing.
