Fashion Trend: Vertical Stripes

Vertical stripes are such a big trend that came out in 2015.

This trend is great because it is so flattering on the female body, creating long lines and causing your eye to look up and down. This is a great trend if you want to add height to your body or detract from a wider area such as the hips or chest.
Monochromatic shades appear to be the most popular for this trend, however why not break the mould a little and rock a brighter colour!!

Below are some of my favourite pieces that use the vertical stripes. I would also recommend keeping away from from the pinstripe look from the 90s and go slightly thicker in width.

Fashion Icon: Gigi Hadid

I was trying to come up with my next fashion icon post, and of course I couldn't ignore the beautiful Gigi Hadid.

She has been the IT girl for 2015, with her Victoria Secret debut, her inclusion in the Taylor Swift squad and just her uber cool street style!

She just appears to be such a lovely person who genuinely loves her life and is rather grounded considering her success. I can't wait to see how her life catapults even further next year.

Below are some of my favorite outfits from Gigi. Would you rock these outfits?

Christmas Outfits 2015

I love Christmas time....
I mean really, really love Christmas time.

I just love getting into the spirit of the season with all the carols, decorations, family gatherings and of course the meaning behind it all (JESUS!).

One of the best things about Christmas is getting dressed up for the days festivities. I like to deck myself out a little in Christmas inspired outfits, whether it be with appropriate color themes, or accessories or both (because nothing is OTT at Christmas time).

Here in Australia it gets bloody hot in December so our Christmas outfits are obviously fresh and summery and cool. Below are some suggestions of some Christmas outfits that you could rock this year. I wanted to keep the outfits somewhat casual but with a "smartness" to them because, well, selfies are inevitable!!

For those of your experiencing a northern hemisphere Christmas, I didn't forget you.  I put together some fun Christmas day outfits for you as well.

Pregnancy Skincare Routine

I've always loved playing around with new skin care products. Once I finish one bottle up, I start researching a new product and go out and try it on my skin. I always feel there is something exciting that my skin is going to just love and soak up, so I try and find it! I love face masks, and peels and serums and scrubs and well, thankfully I'm in that industry!!

When I got pregnant though, I decided it was best to really minimize my skincare routine into a few key products that I knew my skin loved and didn't react to. Now was definitely not the time to try new products. I also wanted to steer clear of any harsh active ingredients like salicylic acids, peels, AHAs etc.

Also my usually oily skin type changed to a more normal/dry condition and so I had to alter a couple of products.

First my holy grail face wash is and has been for a long time now, Simple Moisturizing Face Wash. It removes makeup in one wash as well cleanse my skin thoroughly.  My skin always thanks me when I go back to this little beauty.

If I am feeling super lazy then I love to use a face wipe to remove my makeup. I used to use wipes from Simple to keep everything streamlined but I recently discovered these fun wipes from Kmart. They are only $2 a packet, travel sized and smell like coconut and vanilla. (Note: I cant see where you can get them online but they are in the travel sized section in the beauty department). I was scared to try something different on my skin but these wipes are great, remove everything and smell amazing!!!

I also really enjoy using the Simple Micellar Water if I have really stubborn eye makeup to remove. Just squirt some on a makeup pad and it wipes straight off!

After speaking to a beauty therapist recently I got told that a toner is more of a luxury, not a necessity; so I skipped this step recently and honestly my skin enjoys it. For moisturizer I had to skip my usual oil free lotions for something thicker. I also found that my pesky eczema was appearing on my forehead and I was super dry and remarkably the only thing that worked for me was Aveeno body moisturizer.  Usually I do not recommend using body moisturizer on your face but this is the only thing that worked for me.

For those days that I need to scrub my face, I really enjoy using the St Ives line. Whilst being pregnant I've stuck with the basic Apricot Invigorating Scrub . It's the only scrub that I feel actually exfoliates my skin well.

If I feel like a bit of a pamper and face mask, I go for my Palmers Purifying clay mask (I think this is discontinued).

I haven't used any eye creams, treatments or serums in over 9 months and my skin actually has been the clearest it has in forever. Granted a lot of that is probably due to Pregnancy hormones but still.

I must admit I am itching to get out and try some other exciting products ASAP once bub gets here. Not really replacing anything but adding, such as retinol serums, AHAs and peels that can improve my skin tone and pigmentation.

Until then, these amazing products are winning with my skin.

Summer Trend: Broderie Anglaise

You know that summer is near when you start see an overload of crisp lacy fabrics hitting your favorite stores. My personal favorite fabric for summer is the gorgeous Broderie Anglaise. This fabric is identifiable by little holes that have their edges embroidered and usually in gorgeous floral or paisley designs. I love this fabric in a crisp white but I am also partial to anything pastels as well.

Below are some examples of Broderie Anglaise items that you can wear this summer. A little dress looks beautiful in this fabric or a nice white top paired with some jeans.

I've seen so many cute skirts and shorts appearing which are a great scene stealer, and why not purchase some little intimates because, well who doesn't want to feel cute in their undies??

Summer 2015 Outfits

Had some fun today playing around with outfit ideas this summer. To say that I am excited to play around with normal fashion again once bubs arrives is an understatement :)

So, my 4 outfits below are fun, modest and flirty outfits suitable for both young mums and those without children running around. I avoided using any fussy items or heeled shoes.

summer 2015

The first outfit embraces the rose gold trend. The boxy shape of the top is surprisingly flattering and I love a midi skirt. I kept the accessories neutral but they still pack a punch.

The second outfit is perfect for a really hot day and utilizes the "off the shoulder" trend. The green sticks with the 70s influence, as do the round sunglasses. Slides are very on trend this season.

The next outfit pairs another skirt in a suede material which lends to both the 90s for the colour and shape, and 70s with the material. Paired with a crisp white cami and gorgeous duster vest. This is a practical but cute outfit.

Last I paired some cream jeans for a cooler day and paired with a denim top. I added brown leather sandals and brown leather fringe bag, both on trend yet super comfy and practical for a mum.

Beach Time

First week of Summer in Australia and boy is is hot!!
I've spent a good portion of the last couple of weeks relaxing in and around the pool at my parents house. I can't think of anything more relaxing. That or being at the beach just taking in the rays.

I've put together a beach bag that I always have a on hand, ready to go when I feel the need for a little R and R. The essentials that I have found that I need include:

A fun cover up. Usually a looser dress but a cute top or overalls would suffice as well.
Slip on sandals or thongs to get across the hot tiles or sand. A towel, specifically the round towel which is very trendy this season. Makeup products suitable for pools/beach such as BB creams with SPF, lip balm and waterproof mascara. Sunglasses are a no brainer and I'm loving the clear frames that are super trendy right now. A large brimmed hat is always handy when sunbaking, as well as a music player for some fun tunes. Lastly the bag to house everything should be made of hardy material and be big enough to house everything in it.
Don't forget, always use SPF 50 in the Australian sun. Don't risk skin cancers. I love Ego Sunsense  spf 50 gel sunscreen. It is the best I've tried.

What do you keep in your beach bag?

Pregnancy: A look back

35 weeks pregnant and staring at the final few weeks before our family grows. It has been a journey by every meaning of the word....so where do I begin.

First and foremost I want to state that I feel unbelievably honoured that God allowed my husband and I to fall pregnant and bring a child into this world. I know alot of people aren't able to have children, so please know how blessed I feel.

So, I found out late April that I was pregnant. We had only been trying for 2 months before i got my positive test. I couldn't believe it but it's exactly how people say, you just "know" while your waiting for the little blue lines.

The first trimester was super easy. Mild nausea, mild tiredness and that's about it. This continued till about week 14/15 when I suddenly developed Pelvic Girdle Pain which resulted in a couple of Chiro and Physio appointments which thankfully eventually fixed it.

At 19 weeks I got a routine scan to find out the gender (A GIRL!!!) where they though I might have low fluid in my uterus....which later, after alot of tears, was found to be untrue and everything was perfectly fine. At 22 weeks I developed Round Ligament Pain in my lower tummy which lasted a good couple of weeks. Was quite painful but thankfully a distant memory now.

My second trimester finished up with me getting a positive result for Gestational Diabetes. Thankfully diet proved to keep the diabetes under control and wasn't as much of an issue as I though it would be. In fact I cleaned up my diet so much that I kept my weight under control as well!!

The third trimester is where I am now and boy am I feeling bub. She is sitting head down and feet are right in my ribs. She constantly kicks to let me know she is there. I have constant indigestion and have to keep meals quite small. My diabetes is under control but they are keeping an eye on her growth with constant scans and appointments. There is a chance I could be induced early but we won't know anything till the next scan.

At 35 weeks I've reached a whole new level of uncomfortable. It's so hot (30°c days) and I swear she just had another growth spurt cos my tummy feels so super stretched to the point where it hurts to roll over in bed now........oh boy, bring on Labour. ...soon. ..PLEASE!!

All in all, I can't really complain about my pregnancy. It was rather easy compared to many stories I have heard. My sister had constant sickness and was hospitalized a few times...so mine was a dream compared. BUT it's not all roses and fairies like you sometimes see people portray it to be like. Yes you apparently get the glow (????) and you get to rock a cute little bump but you also get other things i didnt fully expect like sleepless nights, sore back, lots of toilet stops, waddling, nausea, indigestion and kicks to the ribs- all totally worth it for the end result of course :)

5 weeks at most to go, nursery is ready and I'm really looking forward to meeting our little bundle of joy. I will post an overview of labour and delivery once I've recovered and post some pictures of the little one in all her cuteness when she arrives!!

Summer 2015 Trend: 90s Influence

My last post that I put up spoke about how the fashion this season is being influenced by trends made popular in the seventies. I also mentioned that a lot of influence is coming from the nineties as well. This post focuses on the latter.
The nineties trends that i am speaking of are more from the early/mid nineties, such as the muted cool tones of light denim, black and white stripes, and softer take on grunge. Think nineties off duty models.

I'm not talking about the 'loud' fashion from the late nineties that was made popular by the Spice Girls. If this comes back, I might need to retire this blog!! Haha.

So back to what is on trend. High neck singlet tops, preferably cropped. High waited denim short, skirts or jeans. White converses and little black leather backpacks. Accessories were those little black stretchy chokers and pendant necklaces. Brown lips and bold brows were also massive in the beauty realm.

Below are some ideas of pieces you can include into your wardrobe to give a little nod to the nineties.

Summer 2015 Trend: 70s Influence

I've really noticed a big influence in fashion lately from two similar eras from the 20th century. The seventies and the nineties. I say similar because I am referring to the muted, simple nineties style that's prominent now (not the late 90s Spice Girls movement) and quite close in style to the earthy, fitted style from the 70s.

Do I make sense?? Maybe I'm crazy but I definitely see a correlation between the two.
Well let me focus this post on the seventies, because well it came first!

Off the shoulder cropped tops are everywhere at the moment! I love the eyelet material used in a lot of these. It's so fresh and summery and light. Pair this with some 70s staples like high-waisted bell bottom jeans perhaps? Light washed if you want to keep it current. Or maybe with a high-waisted button-down suede skirt- an epic 70s piece. You could also use a 70s print on a more modern design like the shorts below. Again in high waisted format because the fashion rules demand that all crop tops must be worn with high-waisted bottoms.....no belly buttons people!!

If it's too much to rock a 70s ensemble, why not throw in some 70s accessories. A suede satchel, round framed glasses or a flower headband!!

Below are some of my favorite picks for this 70s trend. Will you be rocking any of these this summer??

Fashion Icon: Kendall Jenner

Love them or hate them, the Kardashians have some serious style cred. They always look immaculately dressed whether on the red carpet or on the street shopping. The most trendy (IMO) is by far Kendall. Granted she is surrounded by models so she probably gets some tips and picks up inspiration every day from one of her cool friends but either way, today I am honouring her in my #styleicon series.

Lust List - Summer 2015

I'm here, I'm back and ready to get my but into gear with providing you all insight into the latest fashion trends, beauty tricks and also now, baby posts!!!

Yes that's right! I'm having a baby! I'm due end of December, so right now I am in the thick of the 3rd trimester with all its big belly and hormones!

I'm slowing down more with work and life in general so I've found myself a lot more free to focus on what I love to do, which is blogging!!

So for my first post back I want to look at pieces that I am Lusting. Yes, my very frequent lust list is back. I feel this time it is very 90s themed with the cool toned blues, denims and whites. Being that we are going into summer in Australia, I am focused on lighter weight fabrics and colours.

Lusting 2015 Summer

Now, in saying all this....I'm not going out and buying things from my lust list this time....why? Because let's face it. I wouldn't fit into a denim skirt or a lacey dress like I have pictured. And forget about those shoes.....I wouldn't get outside my front door without aching in them.

So here is my realistic lust list, complete with maternity gear, teething necklace, nappy bag and slip on sandals!
